Every month
The Victor Voice tries to come up with a new paper. Students try to find things
that interest them and write about them. Some turn out to be great articles, and
some turn out to be busts. The thing is, what we do is a lot harder than most people
think. There’s a lot that goes into a story; it’s not just sitting down and
writing.
First you
have to make sure that your topic is appropriate. Choosing something is a
critical moment because you want your story to be interesting and appealing to
high school students. The story also has to be accepted by our wonderful teacher/leader
Mrs. Przybysz. Once she accepts it you can start to write it out. Make sure it
has a good lead or you’ll have a problem.
If you need
to conduct interviews make sure you have a variety of people. The idea is to
get all types of people for your story, not just your friends. Once you interview them you’ll want to find
the best quotes to use in your story-- obviously you won’t be able to use them
all. After you pick them out you’ll have to get pictures. That’s probably the
most awkward part, but it isn’t that bad.
Once all
the stories are done and we are getting close to the end of the month, we will
start to design the paper. Adobe InDesign (our layout program) is really
annoying, but it’s necessary. The process gets repetitive and there are a lot of
little things to do. If you just pay
attention to the process you should be fine. Hopefully you get a good partner
if you’re still confused.
The little
things that go into the school paper are what really make it special. All the
hard work that we put into it gets rewarded when someone simply says, “Yes, I'd
like a school paper.” So please pick up the paper and take a look at them to
support our Journalism class and all our hard work!
